A FASCINATING UZBEK TENT HANGING BY THE LAKAI TRIBES OF UZBEKISTAN, MID TO LATE 19TH CENTURY.
STILL WITH REMAINS OF SOME HANGING LOOPS TO TOP EDGE.
24 GULS EMBROIDERED ONTO A TERRACOTTA COTTON GROUND. 8 SECTIONS STITCHED TOGETHER VERTICALLY. PROBABLY MADE BY VARIOUS YOUNG GIRLS WITHIN AN UZBEK TRIBAL GROUP.
HAS VARIOUS HOLES AND WEAR BUT STITCHED TOGETHER/REPAIRED I IMAGINE WITHIN THE TRIBE AS WAS NEEDED,THIS BEING EVIDENCE THAT IT WAS USED FOR ALONG TIME AS A TENT ADORNMENT BEFORE MAKING ITS WAY TO THE WEST.
THERE ARE 20 IMAGES OF THIS HANGING. I LOVE IT FOR ITS INVENTIVENESS AND OFF BEAT LOOK. CAN BE HUNG ON A WALL I HAVE ADDED TEN TWINE HANGING LOOPS OR EQUALLY AS GOOD AS A FLOOR COVERING.
A TRUE GEM OF AN ORIGINAL UZBEK WEAVING.
